This section provides you with team & club information and contacts if you have any questions or queries about our Inclusive/wheelchair Basketball sessions.
York Vikings Basketball Club is well established within the City of York, whose mission is to promote and advance Basketball in York and the surrounding areas.
Team BackgroundEver since the first “come and try” session was held in the city (27th December 2007), the local authority and York Vikings have been wanting to bring the sport of Wheelchair Basketball to York. Subsequent taster sessions, the most recent in April of this year proved the demand be high, with people travelling from as far as Harrogate to try the sport. The last eight months has seen extensive partnership working between York Vikings Basketball Club, City of York Council, YSJActive and North Yorkshire Sport, that has successfully brought Wheelchair Basketball to the city. Wheelchair Basketball has been formed as part of the York Vikings Basketball Club family, reaching their aim of becoming a more inclusive club whilst jointly providing further Basketball opportunities to its excising members. Anne Morrice (York Vikings Basketball Club, Chairman) said “this is a fantastic inclusive sport for the club and city, it has been eight months of hard work to get this project off the ground and we hope it is enjoyed by all those that take part”. “We are now one of the few inclusive Basketball clubs in the country”.
